Nef brings a breath of fresh air to the fight against the pandemic

Having supported the relief efforts since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nef Foundation has mobilized to produce and supply the materials needed by hospitals in Turkey. The foundation has formed the Nef Foundation Pandemic Advisory Board, made up of academics, industrial designers and material & mechatronic engineers who are all experts in their respective fields. On March 21, the foundation commenced production of 500,000 visors, 10,000 intubation and sampling booths, 2,000 disinfecting stations and 100,000 antibacterial coveralls, and to date, it has delivered 340,000 pieces of equipment to hospitals.

The Nef Foundation has mobilized to protect healthcare professionals, who are at the forefront of the pandemic response in these challenging times, and to contribute to the treatment of the ill. Having started its efforts in the weeks after the first confirmed case in Turkey, Nef Foundation founded the Nef Foundation Pandemic Advisory Board, made up of academics, industrial designers and material and mechatronic engineers who are all experts in their respective fields, and on March 21, commenced production of material and equipment sought after by hospitals in Turkey.

Production overseen by the Nef Foundation Pandemic Advisory Board
Guidance by the Nef Foundation Pandemic Advisory Board academics as well as feedback from hospitals informed the list of high-priority materials and equipment, which were then prototyped by industrial designers. Sensitive equipment, such as respirator filters, were tested by microbiology labs. Following usage tests carried out in hospitals, Nef Foundation commenced mass production. The efforts of the volunteer professionals on the Nef Foundation Pandemic Advisory Board have enabled Nef Foundation to identify the required materials as early as the initial outbreak of the pandemic in Turkey, and complete all design and production stages in the same week, an experience the foundation intends to share with other organizations and initiatives.

Over 340,000 pieces of equipment delivered to hospitals
The Nef Foundation has set out to produce 500,000 visors, 10,000 intubation and sampling booths, 2,000 disinfecting stations and 100,000 antibacterial coveralls, and in the first week of its operations, managed to deliver over 340,000 pieces of equipment to healthcare providers across Turkey. In addition, the Nef Foundation is looking to complete necessary testing for vital equipment such as ventilator connectors and antibacterial air filters in the coming days as it continues to produce and deliver these six types of equipment and materials to hospitals.

“There is no obstacle we cannot surmount if we stand together”
In a public release, Nef Foundation Chairman Erdem Timur said: “We stepped into action to protect healthcare professionals who are fighting selflessly at the forefront of the war against the pandemic. We have started delivering the materials we have produced to healthcare organizations, and we remain committed to continue doing so. The Nef Foundation Pandemic Advisory Board will also identify emerging needs and develop new designs accordingly as we continue providing support for the healthcare professionals to the best of our ability. We know that there is no obstacle we cannot surmount if we stand together, and we believe that, united, we will overcome these challenging times as well.

Nef Foundation carrying out social projects since 2012
Every year, the real estate company Nef donates over half of its distributable profit to the Nef Foundation, which carries out social responsibility projects since 2012 to help people overcome their hardships and to add value to their lives. Prior to the pandemic relief efforts, the foundation had made headlines with social projects aimed at earthquake victims in Elazığ, and immigrants on the Greece border.
